Preparing myself for the inevitable "Speedy!" headlines
Mark Gonzalez, along with Robbie Fowler, appears to be the name being banded about on LFC message boards at the moment. We've all heard plenty about him but there seems to be very little evidence of this. Thankfully, we live in the modern day, so we all have access to facilities such as Youtube where lovely people can circumvent copyright laws and post videos of football matches they've recorded off the television. Isn't T'internet great?
So, as promised a couple of posts back, here is Mark Gonzales against Real Madrid on the 9th April.
In truth, this vid is a bit bloated. The second half of this vid is where the meat is, so probably an idea to let the vid load then skip to halfway. Oh, and turn the sound down. The song on this vid is quite annoying.
This one is perhaps a bit better.
They (whoever "they" are) have taken the liberty of putting Gonzalez's goal first up in the video, so you dont have to wait too long for the goods in this one.
Of course, you can't tell how good a player is simply on the basis of two videos but he does look to have real talent. In the first vid at least, he does show a couple of good touches and his pace is frightening. I'm sure if The Streetmap is still at the club next season he'll be giving him a run for his money (excuse the pun) as the fastest player at the club.
In fact, playing these two up front might well be an idea. Often The Streetmap's greatest problem is that very few players can keep up with him. He often ends up getting into positions to cross the ball and finds himself giving the ball away due to lack of support. Now Speedy (see what I did there? Clever, eh?) isn't going to eliminate the problem single handedly but he will provide some support to Cisse's runs, if indeed he's still making them.
Another idea might be to play the two either side of one of the "slower" forwards, thus giving us more pace AND width. Who knows? Trying to second guess Rafa is like trying to understand one of Garth Crooks questions. Or tolerate one of Jonathan Pearce's commentaries. You get the idea anyway.
These vids DO give a good idea of what we've got ourselves into if nothing else and I think next season will be exciting for so many reasons. And "Speedy" is bound to be one of them.
